隣接する；接触している
adjacent は隣り合うが接していなくてもよく、contiguous は境界が接していることを重視する。米国本土を指す the contiguous United States（48州）が代表例。neighboring は近隣の意。

ラテン語 con-「共に」＋ tangere「触れる」→ contiguus「接触している」→ 英語 contiguous。「互いに触れ合っている」から、隣接していることを意味する。
